Nobody wants to be a jerk at work, certainly not me. I don't think anyone sets out to be a jerk so why does this stigma get attached to some people? I have to confess that I've had some people that have felt I'm a jerk, probably even used worse words than that. I think I get this reputation from some because I am someone that drives the projects I work on hard. To be fair, I also work at a company that is losing money, losing market share and behind technologically by about 4-5 years right now I would say. This environment drives me to want to help the company improve. We need to, because if we don't more people lose their jobs. I attempt to be respectful of everyone but things need to get done in order for our company to survive.
Do others have this experience as well? I will say that I'm respectful of everyone but if someone isn't getting the job done that I need or in a timely manner I'm going to push and I'm going to find ways to get it done anyway, sometimes that means going around the obstacle. Is that such a bad thing and does it make you a jerk?
